Don't we need our nurses?
Nursing is a noble profession. I deeply and strongly hate people who eye nurses with a supercilious air. I can promise a true fight if I hear anyone talk about nurses without due respect. Nurses work hard, in fact they overwork, underpaid and always undervalued. Nurses run hospital, in the clinical patient care area and in the non-clinical management area. In many areas of the hospital, nurses deal with life threatening emergencies, and play a very important part in the recovery and treatment. In India, even lower middleclass people look at nurses with crossed eye. Things are improved in the recent years, still they don't get the respect a teacher or a bank employee gets. Nurses are valued more in western countries. They are paid well. Kerala exports highest number of nurses to gulf and other foreign countries, including USA, UK, and other European and gulf countries. Being a developing country, can India tolerate this drain of qualified, experienced nurses? Shouldn’t the government try to keep them in here, by providing them right kind of remuneration?
